The name Pontoon is derived from the French for twenty one 'Vingt et un'. It is a very well know British game, very similar to Blackjack. How the name 'pontoon came out of the French is beyond me, but that is what is said to be it derivative and I will accept it as taken. It was only a matter of time until this popular UK game was introduced online and is now available from Play United.
How to Play
The game of Pontoon in reality works far better with more than five players, however the online version of the game is also great fun to play. Essentially the rules are the same as Blackjack, there is a banker or dealer who represents the house and they deal all players with one card. He deals from the left and the card remains face down, his card is dealt last. Everyone playing Pontoon except the dealer or bank is allowed to look at his card. Players then place a wager according to the agreed minimum or maximum of the table. A second face down card is then dealt. At this juncture in the game the dealer is allowed to look at his cards, if he has pontoon or 21, he collects all the bets on the table and wins. If not the game will continue until one of the players has a hand count of 21, this is known as Pontoon.
